The Cold War

January 23, 2010 Lana

Some people might not understand this concept, but where we live, it is already 90 degrees and yes we are only in January.

At night, it seems to be warmer in our home.  My husband, who I will refer to as Mr. Polar Bear,IMG_0971
loves the cold air, especially at night.  Now, don’t get me wrong, I love cold air, however, I think someone has to draw the line when the kids have icicles on their noses.

We sleep with a light sheet, a ceiling fan blaring, a portable fan on medium and the central air conditioner on.  The central air is where our problem starts.

I start thinking of our electricity bill and I just want to raise it a couple of degrees.  But, then Mr. Polar Bear, wants to set it on the frosty temperatures, where we could probably open the refrigerator door and warm up.

So, my question for you is, what do you keep your temperature on at night in the middle of summer?  Help end this Cold War!!!

Side note:  Colder temps mean more cuddling, so I’m not complaining!  I love to cuddle!

Blessings to you!  You are loved!!!

Living in NH, we don’t have central air. When we first moved here 4 years ago, my family said “What?” How will you survive?” It was an adjustment getting used to the awful looking window units in my bedroom windows. They do nothing for your decor:) But I tell you, they do make for the best, coldest sleeping in the summer.

Just knowing that you’re wrestling with this problem while I’m trying to decide where’s the best place to buy fur-lined rainboots makes me want to hurl cherry cupcakes in your face…but I know you’re actually a very nice lady…so I’ll refrain.

It’s been so long…but I THINK we keep the AC on 69 with the ceiling fan on medium. My husband’s body doubles as a space heater so I know he gets hot at night so he just uses the sheet. I know the guys have it rough – they are perpetually hot. But at some point, your electric bill must have some say. Good luck with that. Perhaps you will want to look into insulated cold water bags. Neal used them all the time while he was in Iraq.

I can’t sleep when it is hot! So we have windows open and fans on because I also can’t sleep with the a/c on! Go figure!!

We keep our air at 72 at night in the summer and 75 during the day.

We don’t have central A/C – old school, I know. In our bedroom, during the summer, we keep our windown unit on 64 w/ a box fan going. (That’s for the noise.) We do have big blankets to snuggle up in, though. I HATE to sleep hot.

Your husband isn’t going to like me one bit. We live in Florida where it gets very hot in the summer but in order to keep our air conditioning from running non stop we keep our night time temp around 78-79. Yeah it’s true.

I am so jealous!! I am longing for the dog days of summer. In the summer we keep ours set on about 74 or 75. In the winter I would like to keep it set on about 80 but then we wouldn’t be able to afford to eat! LOL God Bless

Our thermostat sit son 72 year round. Which I have found to be the best even on the hottest of days for anyone , especially using ceilig fns and regular fans to circulate the air..

May the LORD bless you and keep you; May the LORD make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; May He turn His face toward you and give you peace. Feel free to leave a comment - we LOVE to hear your thoughts! ~Blessings to you!~ ~You are so loved!~ ~Lana (Like Banana)~
