Today is Works for me, Question Edition!
Here are my 2 questions…
My hands have become super dry in the last few days, where lotion has no effect on it at all. Yes, I did change soaps and will change back asap. But, I still get dry hands. How do you keep your hands looking like the Palmolive commercial hands?
I was recently diagnosed with exercise induced asthma. Any healthy suggestions to overcome this without medications?
Thanks! Blessings to you!!! You are so loved!!!

The backs of my hands BLEED from dryness unless I use vaseline at night. Seriously, it works better than anything.

I recommend Aveeno lotion for the dry hands. Works for me and I get extremely dry and cracked in the winter but the Aveeno seems to keep it at bay if I use it regularly. It doesn’t have an odor either which is nice. As for the exercise induced asthma, I have the same thing and using an inhaler is really the only way I know of to control that problem inexpensively. A generic brand inhaler just costs me a mere $10 and will last for awhile. Good luck!

We have the same problem in our house, even my 6 year old. I only wish I had Palmolive hands. I am excited to try the olive oil suggestion myself.

My husband and one of my sons get terribly dry skin on their hands in the winter. Our solution is something my mom taught me when she was a machinist (talk about getting dry, scaly hands!).
It’s a little icky, but we rub a liberal amount of good old fashioned Vaseline onto their hands and cover them with cotton socks before they go to bed. Your hands will feel gross when you go to sleep, but will be silky smooth (and surprisingly NOT greasy) when you wake up. They do this just a couple of nights a week to maintain.

I don’t have the dry skin problem..but I do have the exercise-induced asthma problem…
I used to use my inhaler before I worked out. Every time. But then I got pregnant and couldn’t use it anymore. Ever since, I’ve been trying to exercise without it and have found that if I only work out in a zone where I can breathe comfortably, then I’m ok. It means that I have to exercise at a much lower level than I was used to, but I also don’t have the jittery feeling that the steroids gave me. Other than that, if you start to have an attack, try to breathe deeply and slowly and cold air is much better for me than warm air. I have my worst attacks on the summer. If you start to wheeze, you know an attack is coming on. It’s best to have an inhaler on hand for those times when you can’t get it under control any other way. More than you wanted to know? Not enough? Feel free to let me know if you want more info! It’s not as bad as it sounds once you learn the routine.

I have very dry hands too. In the winter, I wear rubber gloves to wash dishes. And at bedtime, I put lotion on my hands and then cotton gloves (I found mine cheap at a beauty supply store). That helps the skin to really soak up the lotion. Good luck!

Hey Lana – I would suggest Burt’s Bees Hand Salve and tons of water. The salve is super potent with the first 3 ingredients being sweet almond oil, olive oil, and beeswax. If you can’t find it where you are let me know and i’ll stick some in the mail to you 😉
Love you guys, k

I was just about to post olive oil….that has always worked for us! (chapped foot soles)
Have you tried St Ives cocoa butter?
Oh and drink lots of water 🙂

Lana, I posted some dry skin solutions on my blog yesterday. My entire family is suffering from dry skin and I knew someone else might need some suggestions. This cold dry air is brutal on the skin. Most lotions contain alcohol which has a drying effect on the skin. Try a little olive oil on your hands. Massage it gently in between fingers and around the nails. Give it time to soak in. I also posted a skin salve recipe, too.
Hope this helps! Blessings to you.
