You are here: Home / BIG HOME RENOVATION 2010 / Type A FLU has hit us!

Type A FLU has hit us!

October 21, 2010 Lana

Please answer the question at the bottom of this post…I need input!

The saga continues in our home…

TV time b/c of FLU

Woke up to 2nd born sick.  He had 104.2 fever.
Achy legs, burning eyes, headache, and nauseous.
Made an appointment with doctor.
Went in to his office.
Did a flu and strep test.
Positive for Type A flu aka influenza.

Asked for chocolate on facebook – within an hour, sweet friends drop off chocolate.  Can I just say – when the going gets tough – it is good to have friends – who drop off chocolate!  (Lesson learned:  I should have asked for a cruise to Alaska.  Just joking – we are super thankful!)

Now the other two boys are not feeling so good.  (I’m not feeling my best – but it could be from the lack of sleep.)

I’m thinking about a conference I could have went to this weekend.  I’m really glad I declined.  (Well, I’m glad my hubs is not alone with all the sick children.)  Parenting is not a job for wimps – that is for sure.

Speaking of parenting – God is so faithful!  I can’t even begin to share with you all the blessings that have flowed lately.  My hubs and I can’t contain the flow of tears because of His faithfulness.  He has NEVER let us go and loves us unconditionally.
I love to see the Lord working in so many people’s lives – even when they have not a clue.  One day I hope to have the freedom to share ALL but until God has completed the work – I shall remain silent.
Even still, whatever happens – He will still be glorified!

I must go and help in kitchen.  My upper cabinets are almost completely built – my hubs has done an awesome job!  I will post more pictures later.  They are awesome!!!
Alright, I’ll give you a little taste of what they look like…

Lana and her custom cabinets - out in the driveway

After they are up – we can start doing the back-splash!  We are back to the kitchen renovation! Whohoo!
Hopefully, this weekend – because we are confined to the house for a week – doctor’s orders!
Just a quick question:
What are your thoughts on getting the Flu Vaccine?
Do you?  Why or Why Not?
Blessings to you!  You are loved!!!

It would make an awesome Christmas or Birthday present for a little guy or gal –

    I LOVE corner cabinets.

My two kids and I DO get the flu shot, my husband however never has (he hates hates hates shots…) Knock on wood that we have never gotten the flu really bad, but I can tell you that when the family gets sick, my husband is usually the worst of us all. Even if it is just a cold. I did like the comment about the Vitamin D3, I may be trying that.
I know there are things against vaccines, and I was hesitant as well, but I have kids that have been hospitalized and it just isn’t worth it to see them so sick.

So sorry the boys are sick. I do hope it runs its course quickly. No flu shot here…or any other vaccines. Lisa~

We get the flu vaccine. I have seen my kids get really sick and i myself have been really sick. it is miserable! Flu is still a deadly disease (not as bad in previous years though, maybe because of the vaccine, better comfort/supplemental measures and antiviral meds.) I think it is worth it not only for my family but for others as well… less people to get in the sick cycle. anyways just my unprofessional, opinion.

    Hope yall get better soon.

    Tonny:)

Last year I was so incredibly aganst the flu shot … then I ended up getting the Swine Flu vacc. days before I delivered my baby girl. I sort of felt the hospital “scared” me into doing it and I was bummed. Fast forward 3 weeks, little girl is home, husband is the sickest I’ve ever seen him and baby girl has a 103 fever. She’s admitted to the hospital and tested postive for Type A flu. Her symptoms were minor and I never got sick so I was able to stay with her and continue breastfeeding {whereas my husband wasn’t allowed in to see her at all}.

So, all that to say that I believe if I had not gotten the shot the situation could have been so much worse and who knows what would have happended.

So, this year, we’re getting our shots!

Hi Lana~ Miss you guys! sorry your kids are sick. This year instead of the Flu shot we gave the kids the Flu Mist, much less tramatic for my chicken kids who hate shots, hubby and I got the FLu shot. I think it is worth it, there are just to many germs out there- only 1 of the four kids got sick after the flu mist and it was just for a 24 hour period, with low grade fever.

Oh I’m so sorry about your kids. I sure hope they feel better soon.
And as far as we go, we don’t do any kind of vaccinations. Just personal preference after doing my own research on them. We take natural supplements to build our immune system and if we do get sick I treat it naturally as well. So far no one has had anything severe.

    Praying for quick recovery.

So sorry to hear it’s the flu 🙁

We do all get the flu shot but are adamant about getting it Thimerosal (preservative) free. It is available but you have to ask for it! We have never had any problems.

    Praying for speedy recoveries 🙂

I would like to read a bit more soon. By the way, pretty nice design you have here, but don’t you think it should be changed every few months?

We never get the flu vaccine and never will. Do you give Vitamin D3 to your entire family? Vitamin D3 is sorely deficient in almost everyone’s diet and when folks take it, they don’t get sick, and not with the flu.

When I put our entire family on it, my husband made sure to tell his family doc next time he saw her and she was THRILLED with the fact that we were taking it at all and our doses. She wishes the information would get around to everyone. I personally think it is shameful that the US is posting “get your flu shot” signs everywhere but spending no money on Vitamin D3 public awareness.

Some people think flu is a Vitamin D3 deficiency disease. I take 5000 iu per day, 10,000iu if someone is sick around me (but that rarely happens, since we all take Vitamin D3. I get it at health food stores and/or Walmart. The 5000 iu dose is a small, golden pill that looks much like Vitamin E. The current FDA recommended doses are being updated and many docs are testing all their patients and finding incredible deficiencies. Here is a website (among many) for info:

    Hope he feels better soon!

Bummer…sorry your kiddos are sick. That’s hard on them and on mom and dad! Praying you don’t come down with it.

Can’ wait to see what you do in your kitchen!

May the LORD bless you and keep you; May the LORD make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; May He turn His face toward you and give you peace. Feel free to leave a comment - we LOVE to hear your thoughts! ~Blessings to you!~ ~You are so loved!~ ~Lana (Like Banana)~
