I have the flu.
maybe.
The Board Certified doctor with many years of experience told me he had a feeling but couldn’t prove it.
Strep tests and flu test both came back negative.
So, I have a fever, sore throat and chills. Now I’m on trusty Tami-flu.
I’m not all up to par that is for sure. As much as I love my friends that have a Ph.D – I detest going to their offices.
Detest is probably not a strong enough word.
Thus my Top 10 reasons I hate the Doctor’s Office:
- The front desk. I feel like I’m facing a judge and she is going to hand me a pardon or something. If I say something wrong – DEATH PENALTY – aka longer wait-time.
- The dreaded wait time. The questions that come to my mind during this time. A. Am I really sick? B. Why am I here? C. Why does that lady keep staring at my toes? D. Am I really sick?
- Being called by the nurse. I probably should feel like a winner because I got called and there are still people in the waiting room but…what if no one even knows that I go missing behind those doors? Where are they taking me?
- The DREADED part of ALL – THE SCALES! I hate those things!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are possessed! They HAVE to be WRONG!
- The wonderful paper sheets that goes on the bed. (Please keep comments clean about this one!)
- No snacks. They keep you forever with no food or sweet tea.
- The Doctor enters the room and then he leaves for a phone call. Then he walks back in with his diagnosis without even talking to you in three completed sentences.
- The doctor then telling me “I hope you feel better but I doubt you will.” Yes, those were the exact words.
- Payment center: The lady looks kind. Then she says “You have a 5 hundred dollar deductible.” Me looking queasy… “Umm…it is November…I have 7 people on our plan – I think we met it a while ago.” Her sweetness gone… “If not we WILL bill you. Then it is 20 percent.” “Fine…here is my card!”
- The meds don’t work. Fever has gone up. Throat hurts worse. My hub calls the next day and they want me to come back in for another strep test. Uh….NO!!!
Now the real waiting begins! The phone tag war!
Blessings to you! You are loved!
I should add that there are probably many mistakes in this post i.e. spelling and grammatical but my brain is NOT functioning correctly. I don’t even want chocolate. I know true sickness.

Ugh. We hate doctors’ offices, too.
I’m sorry you are feeling so bad. 🙁 Oscillococcinum usually works pretty nicely on the flu.
Ronni says
Sorry you are sick and had a bad experiance. I work for a doctor that 1) RUNS ON TIME. 2) the front office staff is professional and 3) As her assistant, I return calls the same day AND treat each and every patient with respect. If you feel you are not getting this.. then find a new doctor.. There are good ones out there!!!!
God Bless and I hope you feel better!!!
The Pennington Point says
We never go to the doctor and now you reminded me why! The disrespect is nauseating. I like to annoy them by calling them by their first name. I’ll say, “Yes Ron, I do think I need you to write me a prescription.” They will usually correct me, “I prefer to be called Dr. Smith.” So I say, “I will call you that when you show me respect. When you take me in at my appointment time, when you call me Mrs. Pennington and when you tell your nurse to stop speaking to me as if I were an ignorant child.”
I sure hope you feel better soon! I wish I were nearby to bring you some soup and fresh bread. Lisa~

Hope you feel better soon! I haven’t been to the doctor in forever (no time)but when I take the kids in it always takes hours in the waiting room. Literally. Here’s hoping for no more sickness this winter for anyone!

I feel you here.I HATE going to BC the wait takes at least an hour Bc they have overbooked. They do stare at you and if you say the wrong thing then you are on trial with them.
It sounds like you have the FLU,really bad though. My husband always takes THERMAFLU,it seems to take his chills away.
Blessings

You don’t want chocolate??!! You ARE ill. You need to get a second opinion. This condition could be life threatening.
I do sympathise….just have a funny way of showing it 😉

I believe that the doctors you would want to see for health-related reasons would have their M.D. (doctorate of medicine), not a Ph.D (a doctorate of philosophy). 😉 Praying for your health my friend.
