Time is going so fast with this kid! He is turning into a man. |
This past weekend was a super fast whirlwind.
We made progress in our home! Seriously, we had 1,784.3 things to do on the honey-do list. Buying jeans and shoes for the boys was on the top of the list.
I love to shop but not with my eldest. He is picky and would rather wear flip flops year round. (I really don’t mind, we do live in the tropics.) However, eventually he will have to get a job and flip flops are probably not going to cut it – we wanted to buy him some sensible shoes. A nice pair of boots and tennis shoes.
We stopped by one of our fave stores, Rack Room Shoes. I love that you can buy one get one 1/2 off. We decided to get our eldest son’s feet measured. Well, he grew like 4 sizes. FOUR!!!! I’m still not sure if this is really possible…I think the salesman was a little confused. But, then again, maybe not.
The salesman’s verdict – My 12 year old is now wearing “adult” size shoes. How could this happen?!? I’m sure it was the salesman fault!
Really, I’m saying – no more $10.00 shoes! But, the expensive kind.
Adult shoes are big, clunky, and are too big for my eldest baby! Except the foot part.
So sad…on so many levels.
Next he will be buying a car, getting girl crazy and leaving our safe nest. (I know this sounds like drama-mama but I’ve enjoyed my children so much! It just goes by so quickly!)
The saddest part is when he had on his new boots yesterday – he was taller than me. (Shh…don’t tell. He doesn’t know yet. I quickly put on my heels.) I now will be more of the Mrs. Cleaver type and will wash dishes in pumps just so I can be inches above my son.
I’m truly happy that my son will eventually leave the nest and be able to shop alone.
We’ve put a lot of time, energy, blood, tears, band-aids, jeans, and prayer into that kid. One day, he is going to be grown-up and make his own decisions. He will do great – I have no doubt, in flip-flops.
Blessings to you! You are loved!

It’s just WRONG! This past weekend one of my girls asked if she could measure herself against me. She has been the only girl that is shorter than I….the other three have outgrown me. What do you know but she is now taller than me also. And since the five boys will no doubt be taller than I am, that means I will be the shortest in my whole family…and I am not a short person. I am very upset over this turn of events and am thinking about strapping bricks on the three year old to stunt his growth. Lisa~

I feel you!
My son has been wearing Adult size shoes since he was 9 1/2! He has HUGE feet, and I don’t know where it came from!
He’ll be 12 next month, and I’m buying him size 8 shoes, wow!!!
I still go past the Childrens section and hope that mabye I’ll find a brand that goes up to 8 in kids, lol, just to save some money! Nike and Tony Hawk went up to 7’s, so I was really sad when his darn foot grew more : )

I know the feeling. I measured my oldest for his graduation cap and gown last week. So proud. So sad.
