On our recent trip to Odessa, Texas – the kids and I decided to drive down to the McDonald Observatory.

After getting off of the Interstate we took a beautiful road that was nestled in between the Davis Mountains. I can’t even begin to describe the beauty of the landscape. For 30 minutes, it was just us and nature. No other cars or people in sight. Plus, no signal on the cell phone. It was kind of primitive.
Since my hubby had to work this is one of those trips that Mama was going to be alone and the kids needed to be on their best behavior. I was so proud of my little ones, they had extreme self control and respect. (If you are nervous about taking your kids on a trip by yourself – practice on short trips first.)
The amateur astronomer who spoke and led us on a tour was unbelievable. He spoke of phenomena that I barely understood. It was wonderful. I loved every minute of it. All I could think of was, if the earth was a golf ball…how much bigger was our God.
My kids couldn’t grasp a lot. But, they did understand the golf ball aspect.
They do understand that God is Bigger and He loves us even more than any star in the universe.
If you don’t understand the concept of the golf ball here is a video that explains it…
I can’t wait to do a lapbook on constellations or astronomy. Have I mentioned I always wanted to be a pilot…but before that dream I had always wanted to be an astronaut? So I was on cloud 9 learning about what our Creator fashioned with His Hands.

Psalm 95 1 –6
Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord;
let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before him with thanksgiving
and extol him with musicand song.For the Lord is the great God,
the great King above all gods.
In his hand are the depths of the earth,
and the mountain peaks belong to him.
The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands formed the dry land.Come, let us bow down in worship,
let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;
for he is our God
and we are the people of his pasture,
the flock under his care.
Blessings to you! You are loved!

Visiting from The Hip Homeschool Hop… beautiful words. One of our favorite things about homeschooling is the field trips we get to experience together as a family.
