What we should have done to prepare for college…
Disclosure: I was compensated for my time hosting this giveaway.
I can’t believe college is right around the corner.
We didn’t prepare enough.
How does that even happen?!
For 17 years, we knew that our little guy would grow up. I mean I would PRAY those toddler years would end. Then I would beg the Lord to let him sleep for 9 hours straight at least once a week.
I would be begging the Lord again to watch over him so he would not have a bike fall or get run over as he went into the street without training wheels.
Then after those wheels became car wheels, I’d be begging again, please Lord, watch over him. Let him look both ways at all stop signs. Let him be alert at all times and to watch for those crazy drivers that don’t understand how much he is loved at home.
Then one day, he called and said “Mom we are going up in the plane. I just wanted to tell you, I love you and you might have to wait for me to get back.”
What, when did he grow up?! It is not fair for this Mom’s heart.
But…it is not about me.
I’ve done my job. Except it is coming to a close way too fast. I didn’t believe all those before me that said “Enjoy your baby…they grow up way too fast.” I thought, quit whining. I can’t wait till that day. Ahem. Let me get that crow out of my throat.
So what should have we done to prepare for college?
- I wish I had attended every college preparation seminar that was at every Homeschool Conference.
- I wish I had paid more attention to where are friends paid for their kids’ colleges.
- I wish I had saved more and spent less. But, we are pretty frugal.
- I wish I had known about dual credit and CLEP courses before he started high school.
- I wish I had found that lamp that you could rub and scholarships would flow out.
You know my hindsight wishes are 20/20.
I know that the Lord has our entire lives in the palm of His hands. He will not let go! I believe that with my entire heart. I’m banking my salvation on it.
And when you bank with the Lord – He is the most trusted source that never fails.
My husband and I have been visiting colleges. They are expensive, especially for our son, who wants to be a commercial pilot. Labs and jet fuel are not cheap and they don’t accept fuel awards like Krogers. We are hoping for some hefty scholarships. Thankfully he has high grades.
But, it never hurts to also have a giveaway! In fact, I would suggest you go right now and enter! Your kids are going to have to pay to have clean clothes and other things you don’t have to do anymore. (Sniff!) Wait! Less laundry, I might like some of these upcoming perks.
Blessings to you! You are loved!
