Someone asked me this past week,
“Why do you homeschool?”
Talk about a loaded question!
I think the reason we started learning at home was because my eldest son wanted to read. He made it easy because he was so inquisitive about everything and still has that learning drive! After we moved to south Texas that the temperature was constantly HOT our philosophy changed a little. During the summers, we didn’t enjoy the over 100+ degree days when the pool waters were too warm to swim. So we would save our “off” days to travel in the fall when temperatures were much cooler. This would never work with the public school schedule.
Over time we started to see the fruit of our labors. Our kids loved to learn. We were learning too. We saw character flaws and were able to correct and train our children according to the Word in a way that may have been missed had we sent them to public school. It was good for us. It was God’s Will for us. (I would no way say this is the BEST way for everyone! Everyone is on their own journey!)
It also brought our family close. I don’t regret any days that our kids stayed at home and had to overcome my horrible “teaching” moments like when I couldn’t remember the formulas for long division or why we needed to know the 8 parts of speech. I don’t regret any days that I had to juggle like a clown with fire under her feet. Our lives have been led by the Creator and He orchestrated every detail to His Glory despite our mishaps and failures. Tons of Grace was and is still involved!
One of the ways, I know how the Lord has prepared me to teach my kids and gave me the resources that I needed at that specific time was Texas Home School Coalition Conferences. I’ve been going to them for over 20 years, even when I was still in high school. Wow! I’m old.
This is ALSO a great conference if you want to see TONS of homeschool resources that you can actual touch before you buy! Plus, most vendors give discounts or free shipping during the conferences.
This week it will be in The Woodlands! Whoop! Close to my hometown! I’m so excited!
