Different Culture – Different Strokes

Sometimes living in a different culture, I just want to say “What you talking about Willis?”
Sometimes I flat out love it! Sometimes – not so much. But, today I LURVE it!
My family has been invited to a Dias de Reyes party.
Basically, it celebrated Wise Men day or Day of the Kings, this is when the Wise Men brought gifts to Jesus. I think I remember from Sunday school, Jesus was actually around 2 years old when they brought Him the gifts. I could be so wrong here.
Since I have never been before – this will be a learning experience for the whole family, not just the kids. Plus, who doesn’t like cake and real authentic Mexican cooking?
So, we have been going over our “Par-tay Manners.”
You know the ones:
- no throwing vases like footballs,
- close the bathroom door,
- Most importantly, don’t use RED OPI fingernail polish on white carpet even if the hostess’ daughter says she does it all the time.
I think I break out in a sweat anytime, my entire family has been invited over to someone else’s home.

By the way, do you think the Wise Men still found Jesus in the stable? If He was two years old – do you think they
would have found a better place by then?

Just a thought…
Blessings to you!!! You are loved!!!

How fun! I hope you get to take photos and share all about this holiday with us.
We were just reading this passage in Matthew today and I was explaining to my daughter that Jesus was probably about 2 when the maji found him. Pretty neat to read your post after discussing this just today!

Am now reeling in my complete Kentucky hillbilly-ness. Will have to google holiday because I have no idea what it is. And yes…the “do NOT use red OPI nail polish on the white carpet even if the hostess’s daughter says she does it all the time” is a VERY important one. Way to cover all of your bases!

That sounds so interesting! Let us know how it goes.
Our pastor did a sermon on the wisemen a few weeks ago and it was so interesting. Talking about how it did take them over 2 years to find him and how funny it is that they are usually in manger scenes, particuarly being shown in these glorious gowns- when they had to be all dirty and weathered from travelling for over two years. Very interesting stuff!

First of all, my grandchildren are angels, yes angels! So glad they are experiencing some cultural differences. What better way to train up a child then to apply what you are teaching daily in someone else’s home, right? Good job baby!
