We have been in cleaning mode today! All seven Christmas trees are up and away! We have scrubbed, washed, and scrubbed some more.
We took down shower curtains, washed regular curtains, washed blinds, mopped, washed windows, scrubbed baseboards, cleaned the inside and outside of the oven – you name it, we probably did it today.
Want to know the sad part? I don’t notice much difference. I’m sure there is a drastic difference but I still notice the little things that are out of order.
I have been contemplating on getting some help with the cleaning and realized even if I hired someone they wouldn’t know where to go with all the “stuff”. I have all this “stuff” that is supposed to make my house pretty and instead it is making my life more cluttered.
Next week, I’ll probably be donating a lot of it. If it doesn’t bring my family immediate joy or collects tons of dust – I’m letting go of it! (Except the school books – one day those will bring us joy…does long division ever bring someone true joy?)
Okay, I must go…I’m reading the Bible in 90 days. There I said it! I have the hardest time committing to something like this. Already I’m 9 pages short and it is only the 2nd day. If you would like more information on this please go to Mom’s Toolbox for more information.
I was reading yesterday and my sweet husband walked in and saw me frustrated. I told him “I just don’t get it. I’m reading and reading and it is not becoming rhema (or becoming real) to me.” He encouraged me by telling me a story. I’ll share that on Monday. I need to go finish my reading. I will tell you – that even though you might be reading and it might even seem dry – God is still in it! Continue!!!
If you have never read through the Bible – this might be a good opportunity. Our church went through the Bible in 90 days a couple of summers ago and I didn’t even try. This time I really felt the pulling of the Holy Spirit – I know that this time spent in His Word will not be in vain!
Blessings to you!!! You are so loved!!!

You can do it!
If you read through it, surprisingly, you will remember more than you think and will have it stored away when things later reference it.
And why wouldn’t we have read the one book that matters most? That is what I told myself when I read it. I had read textbooks that meant very little to me, but never the one book that contained the foundation of my life.
And I was sick of other people telling me what was in it. I really wanted to know for myself to see if what “they” were saying was true.
Glad you are purging. It is a good feeling.

I am so glad you are in on the 90 day challenge.. it is really going to be AMAZING!!
Hang in there when things are confusing and just keep reading. He’ll make sense of what you need to understand when you need to understand it. 🙂

You can absoltuely read it in 90 days. I have read my bible through 5 times in 4 years so far. I have neglected it lately for so much other stuff but plan on getting back into it… I left you some awards on my blog hun…

I love the way Allyson put it…”collecting experiences instead of things.” I’ve found myself purging quite a bit in the days after Christmas. Instead of missing the “stuff,” I feel better!! 🙂 Good for you for reading the Bible through!!!

There’s an article in today’s NY Times about how, in the aftermath of the recession, families are collecting “experiences” instead of “things.” That was the first thought in my head when I read that you have a collection of stuff that is only making life cluttered, as opposed to adding joy to it. I think we would all be amazed if we had to move tomorrow and only take one suitcase – and we would be able to fit everything that was truly necessary in life! Good luck with the Bible reading. I’ve read about this challenge on several blogs and think I may attempt it – as soon as I get finished with “The Road”…I can only read one intense book at a time! Ha!

When we moved 2 months ago, I did a major purge, vowing not to take anything with us that we didn’t actually use or need. Got rid of a ton, though not everything- ran out of time at the end and ended up throwing everything that was left in boxes, but it’s a good start.
Good luck with reading the Bible! I heard about the challege, but am intimidated by the 90 day limit.
