De Plane! De Plane!

March 17, 2010 Lana

When I was in elementary, I wanted to be in the United States Air Force.  Not only did I want to be pilot but I wanted to be an astronaut.  Growing up in the Rocket-town area didn’t help matters.  I loved the field trips to NASA so much my Dad bought me an astronaut Cabbage Patch Doll.

My Dad also would take me to Air Shows at Ellington field, near NASA in Houston.  Way before the movie, Top Gun.  However, that movie just fueled my desire.  But, you know life happens and my dreams didn’t jive with what God wanted to do with my life.

So, when I heard about an air show in our area – we got tickets.  I can still enjoy others who fly those sweet birds in the sky.

IMG_3256.CR2 They started out with paratroopers.

IMG_3258.CR2 It was HOT and my sunscreen spray can that I brought, was empty.  We received our first “sunburn” of 2010.  Not the kids, no, their Mommy and Daddy.IMG_3259.CR2 They had old birds.  Even had a re-enactment of the bombing of Pearl Harbor.IMG_3289 They had  real Zero’s.  These were the planes that invaded Pearl Harbor.IMG_3314.CR2 Planes were chasing each other
andIMG_3342.CR2 dropping bombs.IMG_3290 And the then there were the Flying Tigers.  My kids love that movie with John Wayne.
IMG_3409.CR2 Then they simulated his gun power…IMG_3428.CR2 Yeah, it was HOT!  We could feel it on our faces!IMG_3430.CR2 Then – IMG_3464 the grand finale. IMG_3384.CR2Can you say Bad Boy?  IMG_3480.CR2 He went Mach 1 in front of us.  Unbelievable!!!

We had a “BLAST!”

Want to know the best part…IMG_3337.CR2 This guy wants to be a pilot!IMG_3267.CR2 Maybe this guy too.

Okay, I’m not pushing them to do “my” dreams but I’m a little excited that they like – what their Mommy likes.

Blessings to you!  You are loved!!!

I wish that we could have gone with you guys–it looks like the show was a lot of fun! Have you taken them to the Air Force Museum in Dayton, OH or to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museums in the DC area? Both of those places have fueled a desire in the boys to become pilots. 🙂

My husband is a pilot… just for fun. Anyway, we went to a couple of air shows before we had my daughter, but have never taken her! I need to tell my husband we should go. 🙂 And, we live near Houston, so I’ll check that out.

So, so fun! My grandfather was a pilot of the little Cessna’s and that was the second love of his life (after Grandma).

Looks like you might have some future pilots/astronauts in your family!

OH myhubby took about 5 lessons cause he wanted to be a pilot.. he never finished the course it cost too much and he married his ex and that put a crimp in money right there.. but 2 of our boys want to be pilots lol

May the LORD bless you and keep you; May the LORD make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; May He turn His face toward you and give you peace. Feel free to leave a comment - we LOVE to hear your thoughts! ~Blessings to you!~ ~You are so loved!~ ~Lana (Like Banana)~
