Quick Poll:
Would you becrazy brave enough to do a remodel? Have you done one? (I’d like to see it – leave a link in the comments!) If you don’t have a link – just tell me something you learned. Thanks!

Do you see this door? It served no purpose.
We took down the wall in between the two doors. We were glad to remove it. More like jumping for joy – kind of glad.
My hubs built a new wall for the empty space.
Gotta align it just right….
I mean exact. If there is anything I have learned these past two weeks, it is that my hubs is a perfectionist about this job.
Drives me nuts!
Thank God he is the foreman and I’m the….well, the supervisor.
We get along well – unless we are tape and floating. That is a whole other post for another year.
Again, jusssst right.
I mean perfect to a T.
Then comes the LOUD shooter thing. It is like the king of hammers (aka Pneumatic Nailer) and is not afraid to say so.
Then comes the plugs. This looks confusing.
Let me try to explain:
The black wire is called the HOT wire.
I know – hot should be red.
(I didn’t make up the wire colors or it would be at least pink.)
The gold wire is the “ground wire”. I like the gold one.
Then we have the white one. It is the neutral wire.
This is front of the “receptacle.”
My Vanna White talent demonstrating how to wire a receptacle. (That is my “work” hair-do. I know…awesome. haha)
You have to strip the wires a little to fit on the screws. That tool in my hand is amazing. I think it is called a stripper (I could be wrong. But, that is my name for it.)I don’t know if you are like me…but I had never looked at the back of a plug before. It was rather interesting. Each screw is important. Live black wires need to go on the gold screws. White wires go on the silver screws and the ground wire goes on the lonely screw on top. Plus, there was even a ruler that measures how much you should cut the rubber thingy off the wires.
There ya’ go! All done.

Let me just say…don’t try this if you are scared or never done it before -without consulting someone who knows what 480 means. If they don’t understand that – then you probably don’t want to take counsel from them.
(I called my brother, who is a Master Electrician. He warned me but later decided I could do this with my hub’s supervision.)
One more warning: if done incorrectly, you could have major consequences – I’m sure fried ice cream is not one of them but fried fingers, fried house, fried skillets…you probably get the picture.

We’ve been remodeling our house, apparently on the 15 year plan. We’ve done most of the same things you are doing, and I blogged about most, right down to the electric plugs. lol Great minds think alike.

I am in the middle of a complete re-do of my townhouse.. my blog has many posts on each project as it is worked on… some say I’m nuts and others think I’m so cool!… I saved myself thousands by doing the work… it’s almost a year and very slow going but I’m having so much fun! The internet, as you know, tells how to!
Your doing a great job and I’m proud of you!!

We did our kitchen last summer. I will NEVER do it again. In our next house, the kitchen is staying the same. It was very stressfull, and, of ocurse, took a LOT longer then expected. This is before http://scrapingirl.blogspot.com/2009/08/oh-my.html
This is after http://scrapingirl.blogspot.com/2009/09/i-can-cook-now.html I’m missing a complete wall, but you get the picture. 🙂

Wow – these are great pictures! And what a lot of work. 🙂 We renovated a few rooms several years ago because we discovered mold in the walls. Uck. Not fun, but boy was it worth it in the end. Hang in there!
