My hubs is a NERD! He loves spreadsheets.
He doesn’t do technology. He has a laptop and a cell phone. That is it! He has a Facebook page only because I set it up for him. He never checks it. Total boring hands-on guy, who would rather be building something with his hands, thus The Total HOME Remodel.
So, it is a standing joke in our family. When he starts talking numbers to me I.E. spreadsheets and budgets – I start talking Twitter Parties.
I understand tech language so much better than numbers. In fact, I can’t stand them. I do get social media however. Mostly because I’m a social person – I just love being around others!
Okay, real quick – Twitter – let me try to explain! Twitter is a way to share your feelings about anything – only using 140 characters or less. It is also an useful way to keep up with the news – at rocket speed. (I loved it during our latest hurricane.)
People follow other people for all different reasons. (Martha Stewart is my most famous follower. She personally sees what I say when I tweet something.)
Warning: Watch what you say – you never know who might be following or RT (retweeting) what you type. Not to mention the Library of Congress is recording all tweets.
Your name is followed by the at (@) sign. Mine is @loving5kids.
An example of a Tweet:
@loving5kids: I really really love my sweet husband even though he is following asleep as I’m telling him about twitter parties.
Using the pound sign (#) in front of words is a way to see what others are saying about that subject.
Blogging Tips – #savvyblogging. I’ve learned lots of blog secrets on Twitter.
Homeschool Tips and Resources – #homeschool #homeschooling #hiphomeschool #education
Christian Moms – #christianmoms
Once a month cooking – #oamc
There are tons more. If you don’t like what someone says – don’t follow them. You only see people you follow or in the hashtag you have searched.
Now to Twitter Parties:
Definition of a Twitter Party – is a fast-typing party online using Twitter.
Twitter Parties are usually centered around a certain topic. Each party has its own #hashtag. Usually the party has a host that asks questions and keeps the conversation on topic
They are GREAT PR for companies. Every time someone participates in the party the brand is used again and shown to tons of followers all over the world.
My first Twitter Party was a Hallmark Party. The host was Resourceful Mom. The guest was a representative from Hallmark. I actually won a huge pack of Hallmark cards. They were quality cards worth a pretty penny. Sweet!
There are tons of Twitter Parties with different hosts – held at different times of the day. I’ve done one with a cruise, Hasbro toys, Stride Rite, Zhu Zhu pets, Tommy Nelson and a few others. A lot of times you must RSVP in order to participate – just ask the host or hostess. I don’t usually stay for the whole party and that is okay. Come and go as you like – no one will know.
Tweetgrid is a great resource to use when you are participating in a party. You can make a column for each subject or hashtag and the people you are following. The parties go super fast – so type and read fast! A informative twitter party will usually have a a site to go to with all the tweets documented.
Hopefully, this has been a help and has not driven you to spreadsheets.

Blessings to you! You are loved!
Another Caution: Be careful giving out too much information. Use common sense and don’t give out personal information unless it is a reliable source!

Well, now I’m *really* lost.
Twitters? Tweeting? Twooters? Hip Hop Homes? Hip Hop Hope?
All these hopping twits? … or hoping tweets? …. or is it tweeting hippers?
O, as I said, ‘I haven’t a clue’…!!
Still love you tho’!

My sister and I just started blogging in March too. Prior to this I barely knew how to turn on a computer. I’M more like your Hubby and love working with my hands and with people in person. I have enjoyed this new world that has opened up to me through the blog sites and all the great ideas that are shared. Thanks for the post and the picture of those homemade onion rings caught my eye.

.snore……. oops sorry, have you finished??
‘I’m sorry, but I haven’t a clue’ is the phrase that comes to mind. I must read what you had to say again. Slowly. When my brain is on full power. So far? I just don’t ‘get’ it. Sorry.
But I do blog, so it’s a step in the right direction, yeah?
(Though this is the truth: I only learned about blogs last March – no kidding. But I started my own straight away, so that’s a Brownie point, I’d say)
Love your posts, as always!
