Love seeing all my friends and them sharing how they celebrate this season.
From candles on their kids’ heads, to a naughty elf showing up in weird places, to Nativity scenes, to some single Moms barely making ends meet, to some Moms who spend this Christmas like it is their last and try to buy every present in the store.
Seriously, those times are precious.
But, I really love hearing how my friends show the love of Christmas with others. Or even non-friends. It warms my heart and brings tears to my eyes!
I am amazed how love is given to others in need.
Here are some giving to others in need ideas:

- On one of the groups that I am in, they were collecting books for a local Children’s hospital. How easy was that? Books, my kids no longer read and would be enjoyed by other kids and would bless their parents too.
No brainer! - Food banks. Ours constantly needs volunteers just to tear down boxes, move boxes and just make sure expiration dates are not expired. These are huge volunteer opportunities for teenagers.
- Raking leaves for the elderly. We live in the tropics but somehow we still have leaves that go in our neighbor’s yard. One of the biggest blessings my kids had was cleaning up their yard after a huge storm. My neighbors were blessed beyond measure and it made our ‘hood’ closer.
- Make A Wish foundation.
My boys recently just helped our local chapter on a spur of the moment fundraising opportunity. My friend needed strong arms and my boys were readily available. I asked my son which is the most humbling volunteer opportunity and he mentioned this one. He said “It was so great to know that they were providing a wish to someone who was dying.” - Pray for a specific family, as a family, who’s love one is serving overseas or away from home for the holidays. This is one we have done off and on for years. My boys have a soldier on their bulletin board that they would pray for almost daily that the Lord would protect them. Every soldier that they have prayed for thus far has made it home safely. It was such an honor to see them pray for someone that they didn’t even know.
- Ask your kids what they want to do. My kids amaze me when coming up for ideas, I am sure yours will too. They see you when you are sleeping, they know when you are awake. They know if you act good or bad…oh wait, wrong song. But, same concept. You hopefully teach them by your lifestyle to give to others.Be careful how and where you ask it…I learned the hard way, and had to change some things about myself.
Don’t you love parenting?! Always learning about myself. Ugh!
Tell me how you give to others! I want to know!
