When he was in my womb, the doctor said that I had low amniotic fluid, I had this with everyone of my children. Due to that, I had a sonogram pretty often.
This particular sono, the tech took about an hour to look at me. (They were normally about 10 minutes.) This was abnormal and she said that something had gone wrong and they were calling the doctor in. The doctor came in and said this, “there is something wrong with the baby.” (Due to my lack of knowledge of the particular terms she used, I will make this in simple language.)
The two tubes that go up into the heart had transversed. She went on to say, “if the baby lives, he will probably not survive but if he does he will have to have immediate surgery and be ill the rest of his life.” For this reason, she referred me to a specialist in downtown Houston.
Immediately, my other son, who I had taken with me, dropped his toy “Bob the tomato,” and it said “God made you special and He loves you very much.” Talking about the Lord talking though a vegetable.
We went to the specialist after calling a friend to come and pick up my eldest. My husband met me down there.
On the way there we past an airport. There were planes everywhere. They were leaving white streaks forming crosses in the sky. I remembered a scripture, “The Lord gives and the Lord takes away, Blessed be the the name of the Lord.” I decided right then, if the Lord gives or takes away, I will still praise His Name.
The specialist had told us that he didn’t want to know what was wrong so he could be objective. He looked at the brain and said that looks normal. He then looked at the kidneys – normal, liver -normal, lungs – normal, and heart – normal. He said they all looked normal.
We said, “Are you sure?” He said, he couldn’t give us 100 percent but he gave us 99 percent. We were thrilled.
When it was time to deliver, I still had to be induced. The amnio fluids were too low. My doctor still wanted a specialist in the room, “just in case.”
I remember seeing Tiger Woods on the TV and delivering a healthy blond boy. This was so odd, because my other son had dark hair and a dark complexion. We just said that God must have visited him in the womb.
He, like I said, is a true joy to be around. We thank God for him and are so grateful that the Lord gave him to us.
Tacos are his fave! Along with IHOP.
