Adventures of a Christmas Letter

December 19, 2008 Lana

This year we went to Portrait Innovations for our Christmas picture. They were so good to us. We actually went in early November or was it October? It seems ages ago.
I actually made the appointment on a Sunday, so we would be in our Sunday “best.” However, I didn’t like that we clashed in colors. So, 2 hours before our picture I headed to our nearest and faithful children’s consignment shop. Amazing, my hubby kept the children in the car and I found clothes less than $20 for everyone that was color attractive. This mommy couldn’t had been happier. Our colors this year were brown, blue and the girls had on exotic animal print.
We get to the studio and I try to tame the girl’s hair. Gotta love the humidity. I explain to our photographer, that we have a hard time taking the “right” picture. You know, the one with everyone smiling, no tears, hair in place, no bunny ears, zippers up.
I’m not joking, we took over a hundred photos. We definitely gave this guy experience. At the end, we had one photo. Marvelous Darling, simply Marvelous!

This is what we gave my Grandma for Christmas!

Now, it is six days before Christmas and I still have not sent them out. They are addressed and all. I just need to write an annual Christmas Letter. I have written one every year for the past 11 years or so.

If you don’t write one, at least consider it. Your life and your family are important.

I received a phone call one year and I tried to save it but eventually it was erased. My great aunt called and told me she read my letter. She went on and on how pleased she was that we were having another child (this was years ago). She was so proud and was crying at the end of the call, saying she never regretted having her five children and they were the highlights of her life. She went on to say how the letter was so special to her and it made her feel full inside. I was thrilled that she even knew who I was. (We come from an extremely huge family on that side. My Grandma is one of 12 plus children.) It was a phone call I remember every year as I do my Christmas cards. She died not long after.

I know Christmas letters sometimes get a bad rap. So, here is what you do, write on the card or on the outside, you don’t have to read this, you have permission to just toss it. No one will ever know. No hard feelings!
Easy as pie! Your life can encourage someone today and quite frankly I have never met anyone that says, “Please don’t encourage me.”
There so I’ve said my peace.
You are so welcome to send me your letter and I’ll read it, guaranteed!

I did these until about 3 years ago when I stopped sending cards out completely. I have no idea why I stopped. I just didn’t do it one year. Then the next. Then this one. Seems a little late to get one out now. Especially since we don’t have a way cool photo like yours. (Looks great, BTW)

Love the story about your great aunt!
