I know it’s December. I know that I’m supposed to be festive and excited about giving presents to my children. I know my house is the only one really not decorated for the yearly decorating contest. I still have my fall decorations up. Do you think we could postpone Christmas until January? Yeah, I didn’t think so.
Well, one tradition that I will not pass this year…our reading of “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” by Barbara Robinson. We read it aloud every year and my children love it. This is one book that I would suggest reading at night right before bed, aloud. It is funny, easy to understand, and quite frankly easy to relate to if you have ever worked in any type of children’s ministry. Plus, it excites children about reading, which I am a true believer.
I will write more when I have a little more time. Until then, I am going to find my fall decorations box. Ooooh…the garage! Now THAT – is a VERY scarry thang!

Oh–GREAT idea! I think that my 4 year old would follow along as well, and I think that my 10 year old would love to do the reading.

Don’t feel too bad, I just brushed snow off of the fall wreath still hanging on my front door. And the turkey and scarecrow decorations my children made are still up. I am definitely not ready for christmas. The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is such a great book. I don’t know what happened to my copy, I haven’t seen it in a few years. I will have to dig it out.

What a perfect book to read aloud. My kids are 5 & newly 3. At what age would you recommend they could handle listening to a chapter book?

You can do it! I’m cheering for you from my house. Our tree is up, just doesn’t have all of our decorations on it yet. I hope that makes you feel better. We are normally decorated and ready by Thanksgiving, but not this year and that is okay. I can’t wait to see your pictures! Blessings and happy decorating to you.
