Fever was 105.2 and Sounding the Alarm at Midnight

October 20, 2010 Lana

Lil' girls
Yesterday, was quite a day.  I took my youngest daughter to the doctor.  She had a fever and just didn’t feel very good.  I can’t even remember the last time she had been ill.

The doctor tested her for the flu and it was negative.  Since he thought, it was a sinus infection – he gave her an antibiotic and skipped the strep test.

We got home and she took her meds then went to her room to take a nap.  A couple hours later she came in the living room and didn’t look so good.

I took her temperature and it read 105.2!  I stayed calm and called the doctor back.  He told the nurse to tell us to give her both the Tylenol and Ibuprofen at the same time and then to come back in the morning to run some more tests if she had not gotten better during the night.

I also gave her a lukewarm bath and tried to get the temp down.   Finally, it came down.  Plus, I prayed the entire time!  This was the highest I have ever seen a temp and I wasn’t taking any chances.  (I used to babysit for a boy who would have seizures if he got too hot.  I don’t know how I would handle my kids doing that.)

Later on, I put my girls to bed and told them I would come in at midnight to give my youngest daughter her meds again.

Around midnight, (we were still up) my eldest daughter walks into the kitchen and says “It is midnight and time to give medicine.”  My hubs asks her “Did we wake you?”

She must have not heard him and went back to her room.  I got the meds and went to wake up Sleeping Beauty.  (Who doesn’t like her meds, I should add.)

When I get to their room, I asked my eldest princess –Did we wake you?  She said “No, I set my alarm  – so you would come and give my sister her medicine.”

I wanted to cry.  If you knew my eldest – you would know that she does NOT wake easily.  She is my last one up, every single day.

She cared enough for her younger sister to make sure that she got her medication on time, even if it meant losing precious sleep.  She had set alarm for midnight and put it right next to her pillow.  It still makes me want to cry to think about it.

I love to see my children giving of themselves for others.  I can’t tell you how much that blesses my heart.  My lil’ girls are growing up too fast!

I am relishing my short time that I have with them…(this works for me!)

girls

Blessings to you!  You are loved!
BTW – My youngest daughter is still not feeling so grand.  However, her fever only got to 102. something this afternoon.  By bedtime it was a normal temp, again.   Hopefully, it will be gone by tomorrow!

How sweet! What a blessing when our children show love for one another.

One of my girls used to get febrile seizures. Very scary. Those high fevers in little ones can be such a frightening thing. I hope she feels better soon, poor thing. Lisa~

This Grandma is so proud of both sweet daughters. The eldest has such a nurturing heart and the youngest is such a trooper. I could write a book about both but do not believe your comment section would hold it. And you Mom,no doubt it was a praying Mom that made the difference. You go girl! Love to all,
    Grandma

Your story about how loving and caring your older daughter was made me almost cry too. How sweet. We have 5 children. The youngest 2 are boy/girl twins and the Zion is always looking out for Hosanna. It is really precious to see.

I hope your daughter feels better soon.

    Blessings
