Spring is here in Texas! We are in Garden-Mode!
(I can’t wait to show you what we are doing-tons of projects!)
Have you seen those Topsy-Turvy, the upside down tomato planters?
Well, we made one. The only thing that would have made it cheaper is if we had grown the tomato plant from a seed.
It costs about $1.50 or so.
I asked my son to hold it for me.
Notice the book. He loves his books. (I’m thankful.)

The inside of the planter. Notice some of the blooms and tomatoes.
This is what we did…
- We cut the bottom of the washed out milk carton.
- We rolled a newspaper into a cone shape to hold the soil.
- We then used duct tape to hold the newspaper to the carton.
- We carefully threaded the tomato plant into the spout.
- We add dirt. (I just used regular soil. I hope this works!)
- We (meaning my eldest) watered it.
We used Husky Cherry Red Tomatoes ($1.50) and Organic Miracle Grow Soil (already had it). Total project – $1.50.
I have no idea if this is going to work. It is a “science experiment.”
I let you know it’s progress. Sign up for my emails, or use the friend follower to stay up to date.
Blessings to you! You are loved!

Hi Lenore,
Well, we never received any rain. Plus, every-time I tried to water them the water would go straight through…wish, I could have plugged up the hole better.
I would still try this again…when the weather gets out of the 100’s. We got 2 tomatoes.
Blessings to you!

Just was checking different blogs, when I came across yours. I plan on trying your tomatoe jug, we have slugs here, and they just kill my garden. I’m now following hope you’ll come by and visit me too.

Lana,
This is a brilliant idea. I was just thinking I might have to do something like this because we now have a dog that likes to tear things apart. Hehe!
I live in Texas, too, so I am getting the gardening bug. I’m gonna follow your blog just to see the progress of this experiment. LOL
God bless,
Rebecca G.

Very cool! I think we might have to give this one a try!
Also, my daughter is the same exact way with her books : ) That pic made me smile because lately, anytime I take pics of my daughter, she has a book in her hand and doesn’t want to stop reading long enough for me to get an actual shot of her face, lol!
