My Kids Teach Me

I had no idea when I had kids – they would become my teacher.

My kids teach me:

  • What love really means.  When you look at their sleeping face at the end of the day – all the frustrations just melt away and you know that God meant for you to be their Mom.
  • Laundry is fun!  Okay, maybe not for you.  Or myself.  But, one day…it will be  – I just know it.
  • To Laugh and smile nicely in weird predicaments.
Sometimes you can just act deaf or burst into sign language and that works too.
BECAUSE there are plenty of weird predicaments when you have 5 kids or just 1 child.
No it is not okay to sing “I see your booty, all nice and shiny” when a not-so-small-lady bends over in the hotel hallway to pick something up and this is the song that ROARS out of the little one’s mouth.
  • To pick my battles!  To say “it is okay” when a wrong is done -AND to have a mercy card – handy.
People make mistakes – young and old.  Sometimes the punishment (depending on what it is)  just needs a hug and not the 3rd degree.
  • Time is SHORT!
Growing spurts do run out.  Blink – and they are preparing for college. They will move out and start families of their own – hopefully.  I want to having lasting relationships with them not just be here for them when they are young.  They need me right now to teach them in all ways…but soon they will just need me for other things i.e. babysitting, to laugh with, to borrow money, to talk – I plan to become a trusted confidant and true friend and not “mother” them as if they are still ill-prepared.

There are so many things that my kids teach me.  I can’t even began to list them all.  I had thought about doing a series – 31 days of what kids teach their parents.  But, then reality hit.  I just don’t have the time or energy.  My kids are growing and need me. (Quite frankly – I need them too.)  If it happens, then Praise the Lord. If it doesn’t – well, Praise the Lord!

Maybe you have some ways, that your kids have taught you!  I’d love to hear them! Just put it in the comments.  (Just be nice…your kids might read it.)

Blessings to you!  You are loved!

Such a beautiful post Lana. They truly teach us so much!!

I’ve learnt how to forgive quickly, love generously, laugh heartily and drop everything to have that random “Lets Go Crazy” moment from my two. 😉

May the LORD bless you and keep you; May the LORD make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; May He turn His face toward you and give you peace. Feel free to leave a comment - we LOVE to hear your thoughts! ~Blessings to you!~ ~You are so loved!~ ~Lana (Like Banana)~
